LOS ANGELES: Philippine Senator and WBA welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao celebrated America’s Independence Day on Thursday at the Pan Pacific Park where he held his early morning roadwork.

Pacquiao entertained hundreds of his Filipino-American countrymen by having himself photographed with them and signed autograph for more than two hours after making his regular rounds at the Park.

Despite being tired, Pacquiao went home to his nearby residence along Plymouth St. inside Hancock Park happy having made his fans happy, too.

The celebration didn’t end there. Over at the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, during his afternoon workout, the party continued with Pacquiao lighting fireworks while working the mitts with training consultant Freddie Roach for 10 rounds

There was singing of the American National anthem and waving of the national colors by some Fil-Am members of his staff, of course.

It was actually a day for sparring being a Thursday, but the training team decided to hold instead the punching the mitts thing to give their pupil an extension of his full day rest Wednesday.

A 12-round sparring, against regular mates AB Lopez and probably Jesse Romano, if he’s already well after falling ill has been re-scheduled on Friday.

If Romano is still sick, former amateur Lazaro Lorenzana will again take his place as he did last Tuesday.

Friday’s 12-round skirmish, six round apiece against a pair of dancing mates, will be Pacquiao’s last over 10 rounds.

The tapering off starts Monday next week, according to strength and conditioning coach Justin Fortune.

Next week’s sparring, Fortune added, could be eight rounds on Tuesday and Thursday. Saturday will be for four rounds, the same volume until the team leaves July 15 for Las Vegas.
