Suspected Al-Qaeda terror group member nabbed in Zambales

MANILA, Philippines — A suspected member of the Al-Qaeda terror group was arrested in Iba, Zambales for alleged possession of a gun and explosives, police said on Tuesday.
The Philippine National Police – Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) said Cholo Abdi Abdullah, a Kenyan national, was arrested at around 3:30 p.m. Monday.
Police said Abdullah was arrested by virtue of a search warrant served by joint operatives of the CIDG, other PNP units and the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
When arrested, police said Abdullah yielded a 9mm pistol with a loaded magazine, an improvised explosive device, a hand grenade, and other bomb making components.
Abdullah is suspected to be linked with an Al-Qaeda terror cell that is currently operating in East Africa. (Editor: Mike U. Frialde)
