MANY liars are well-practiced that even wise people get fooled. The most painful is – I know you will agree – when the people close to us tell us lies.
According to experts, people lie for different reasons: to avoid conflict, gain unjust rewards, inflate their image, cover up bad behavior, and gain control.
It is not very easy to detect if people are manufacturing tales and lies, but the following tips might help.
Liars give inconsistent statements. When confronted, they deny saying or doing something right away. Their words are also inconsistent with their actions.
They change the topic to avoid your questions. They may even raise their voice and act angry.
Their sentences are uttered slowly and with pauses to give themselves time to think. They also study your facial reaction as a basis for what they are going to say next.
Although some can train themselves to do the opposite and give an impression of sincerity, they avoid eye contact and even cover their mouth or face.
They offer more details than necessary. They hope to convince people easily by doing so.
Liars have anticipated and prepared for your questions long before you ask them. They sound good and look good, so improve your lie detection ability!
