KIDAPAWAN CITY – The province of North Cotabato in Central Mindanao has monitored at least 2,832 dengue cases from January up to June this year, records from the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) showed.
Of the number, it recorded 10 deaths.
IPHO head Dr. Eva Rabaya said cases were monitored in towns of Alamada, Carmen, Antipas, Libungan, Matalam, Midsayap, Makilala and Kidapawan City.
Rabaya said they have just conducted fogging operations in areas where dengue cases are high.
Also, they distributed treated mosquito nets in several households, especially those affected by the viral infection.
Last week, several forum on dengue awareness and prevention were held in schools and in barangay centers.
Rabaya said they are trying to instill in the people a strategy to fight dengue which they termed as 4s or short for search and destroy, self protection measures, seek early consultation, and say no to indiscriminate fogging.
This year’s data on dengue is at least 50 percent higher than last year, data showed. Dengue is caused by a bite of a mosquito called aedes aegypti and aedes albopictus. (Malu Cadelina Manar)
