Tagaytay Rep. Abraham ‘Bambol’ Tolentino maintains that he has resigned as chairman of the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) and that he is looking forward to the soon-to-be-held elections of officers next month.
Tolentino, reacting to reports that not everyone is following suit, insists that the decision during a crucial POC meeting last Tuesday at the GSIS Building in Pasay City, remains in effect.
“All verbal resignation is still binding… except for the 3 not present.. PALABRA DE HONOR,” texted Tolentino when asked about the sentiments of board members Prospero Pichay of chess, Robert Mananquil of billiards and snooker and Jeff Tamayo of soft tennis.
Everyone present during the meeting had tendered their resignation, including first vice-president Joey Romasanta, treasurer Julian Camacho of wushu and auditor Jonne Go of canoe-kayak.
Tolentino said he is keen on running for the position of president following the resignation of Ricky Vargas last week.
Romasanta had assumed the presidency via succession but his legitimacy was put in question.
Tolentino might end up facing off with archery chief Clint Aranas but Aranas, who heads GSIS, could be questioned as well since he is not only a regular attendee of the POC’s bi-monthly GA but hasn’t been archery president for four years.
