Presidential nod needed to nail sacked EPD chief

MANILA, Philippines — The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said it would ask for presidential clearance to pursue the administrative case against sacked Eastern Police District (EPD) chief Brig. Gen. Christopher Tambungan.
Maj. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, NCRPO chief, explained that the case of Tambungan, who is considered a “third level” police officer, needs a clearance from the Office of the President to pursue the investigation.
“Third level officer kasi bago simulan yung administrative case kasi kailangan ng presidential clearance,” Eleazar told INQUIRER.net in a phone interview.
On June 19, Tambungan was relieved from his post after video footage came out showing that he physically and verbally abused a policewoman at a police precinct in San Juan.
