Police arrested the suspect in the rape-slaying of an 18-year-old student in Quezon City last week after investigators found in the crime scene his necklace with a dog tag.
Police Brig. Gen. Joselito Esquivel Jr., chief of Quezon City Police District (QCPD), said robbery was the initial motive of the suspect, Elimond Domingo, 25, in killing the victim, Allison Dacillo, a Grade 11 student, whose body was found lying on her bed with stab wounds inside her rented unit.
Probers said Domingo was renting a room with his mother in the same house on La Trinidad Street in Barangay Payatas B.
The suspect confessed that when his mother fell asleep after their drinking session around 12:30 a.m. on June 7, he went out of their room and passed by Dacillo who was listening music through headphones while about to enter her unit.
Due to the influence of alcohol, Domingo said he went back to his room and got a kitchen knife which he used to unlock the door of the victim’s unit. He then took away the phone and keys of Dacillo who was already sleeping then.
However, Dacillo woke up as the suspect was about to escape, prompting him to cover her mouth with his hands and repeatedly stabbed her in the neck, left arm and left side of the body
Police said the shorts and undergarment of the victim were also missing when probers arrived at the crime scene.
Results of a medico-legal examination later showed that Dacillo was raped.
Based on the report of Batasan Police Station (PS-6), Dacillo’s body was discovered at about 5 p.m. when a witness passed by her room and smelled something off.
During investigation, neighbors of the victim, including Domingo, were invited for questioning when probers noticed that he was uneasy and suspicious.
“Ito, umpisa pa lang, paunti-unti na siya na naging primary suspect kasi siya ‘yung may sagot lagi, na bawat tanong, may depensa, laging may paliwanag,” Maj. Elmer Monsalve, chief of QCPD Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU), said.
While investigating the background of Domingo, investigators found that a broken silver necklace recovered near the victim’s body matched with the necklace he was wearing in a picture on his social media account.
A witness also bared that Domingo was seen coming out of the victim’s room on the night of the incident.
This prompted the operatives of QCPD-CIDU and PS-6 to arrest the suspect in his rented room. He admitted the crime during questioning.
He also told the police that he hid the victim’s mint green underwear and pink shorts inside her room. The stolen mobile phone and keys were recovered in a creek near Soliven Street in Barangay Commonwealth.
Further investigation revealed that the suspect has a standing warrant of arrest for drug charges issued by the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 228.
The victim’s mother, Edna Dacillo, broke into tears when police narrated what happened.
According to Edna, she was working as a caretaker in Cavite when she received the news about her daughter.
Edna bared that she last talked to her daughter a week ago through chat and told her that she’s doing fine.
It appears that the victim decided to live in the apartment near the house of her aunt for a year to study.
She added that the victim’s father is an overseas Filipino worker in Saudi Arabia who was sending her allowance.
“Nagkaroon siya ng communication sa papa niya, binibigyan siya ng sustento direct na sa kanya. Syempre mahal siya ng papa niya, kung anong i-request niya sinusunod ng Papa niya,” Eden said.
Domingo is now under police custody and will be charged with robbery with homicide and rape before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office. (Alexandria San Juan)
