Games Sunday (Pasig City Sports Center)
12 noon – Alaska vs Purefoods
1:30 p.m. – Ginebra vs San Miguel
Former MVP winner Allan Caidic recalled the form that had made him the deadliest shooters of his era, burying five triples in leading San Miguel Beer to a 76-61 drubbing of Alaska in the UNTV Cup PBA Legends Faceoff on Sunday at the Pasig City Sports Center.
The 1994 MVP winner who is known as “The Triggerman” during his playing days in the pro league scored all his 15 points from the trifecta region as the Beermen rolled to their second straight win in the event that will benefit the PBA Legends Foundation after the month-long tournament.
While Caidic sizzled from afar – he finished with an impressive 5-of-9 shooting from the 3-point zone – two-time MVP Danny “DI” Ildefonso dominated the paint to lead all scorers with 16 points aside from posting six rebounds, two assists and a steal.
MPBL Commissioner Kenneth Duremdes shook off the cobwebs of a long layoff and finished with 12 points while Willie Miller and Johnny Abarrientos were held to combined 17 points as the Milkmen slipped into a 1-1 record.
Ginebra San Miguel, meantime, brought enormous joy to a sizable Sunday crowd by downing fierce rival Purefoods, 100-83, with former MVP Jayjay Helterbrand exploding for 28 points.
Vince Hizon also shone offensively, knocking down five triples on the way to 25 points for the Gin Kings who tied the Milkmen for second to third places.
Four-time MVP winner Alvin Patrimonio tallied 16 points but it was not enough as the Hotdogs absorbed their second straight loss in the event organized by UNTV President and CEO Dr. Daniel Razon.
A tax-free R2 million will go the PBA LegendsFoundation after the event.
