TACLOBAN CITY- The Eastern Visayas regional office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has announced that beneficiaries of its unconditional cash transfer (UCT) will soon receive their cash benefits under the program.
Yvonne Abonales, DSWD acting regional director, said the agency is just awaiting word on the release of the funds from the Land Bank of the Philippines (LandBank).
Land Bank, which receives the money deposited by DSWD, releases the same to local government units which handle the payout to UCT beneficiaries.
The release of funds under the UCT was temporarily suspended during the election period.
In Eastern Visayas, there are more than 87,900 UCT beneficiaries who are entitled to receive P200 per month or P2,400 per year.
The UCT is a cash grant program of the national government to poor families as a way to help them cushion the impacts of the increasing prices of basic commodities.
“(The UCT) seeks to provide cash grants to poor households and individuals who may not benefit from the lower income tax rates but may be adversely affected by the rising prices,” Abonales said. (Editor: Gilbert S. Gaviola)
