THE US embassy in the Philippines on Thursday clarified that the its Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) would close its Manila Field Office on July 5 due to “insufficient workload” and not for lack of resources.

US embassy Deputy Press Attaché Trude Raizen said that the “USCIS will transition Forms I-407 and I-130 to domestic and electronic processing, respectively.”

Raizen said that these two form types “account for approximately 65 percent of the office’s workload.”

“Under existing inter-agency agreement, the US embassy in the Philippines will assume responsibility for certain limited immigration services previously provided at this location by USCIS,” she said.

“USCIS is working to better leverage to address backlogs in the United States while also leveraging existing Department of State resources at post,” Raizen said.

There will be no change in visa processing at the US embassy in the Philippines, she said.

“In addition to the Manila Field Office, USCIS will also close the Ciudad Juárez, Mexico Field Office on June 30, and has entered into discussions to phase out all international offices,” Raizen said. BERNADETTE E. TAMAYO
