At least seven people including a three-year-old boy were injured in a gas leak explosion at a tea house in Sampaloc, Manila, Sunday morning.

Manila top cop Police Brig. Gen. Vicente Danao, Jr. said a gas explosion occurred at Yogurt and Tea House on Dalupan Street in Sampaloc at around 8:10 a.m . on June 2. The establishment is located behind the Far Eastern University and in front of Mary Chiles General Hospital.

“Based on the initial findings of the Manila Police District Explosive Ordnance Division, there is a possible gas leak of Petron Gasul. No improvised explosive device were found,” Danao said.

“Nag-accumulate ‘yung gas leak then na-ignite that caused the explosion,” he added.

Danao identified the injured persons as Marco Joseph Magabale,3 ; Live Espino, 28 — both residents of Paranaque City; Jeffrey Revilla Hernandez, 28, of Manila ; Raeniel Garcia, 37, of Valenzuela City; Marilyn Parreno, 57, of Calauag, Quezon; Merliza Defeo, 42, of Bucal, Quezon; and Shiley Villarazo, 47, of Mauban, Quezon.

They were brought to Mary Chiles General Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The explosion also affected the adjacent Jashley Hydro Refilling Station while the glass windows of the Mary Chiles General Hospital right in front of the establishment were broken.

Police said four vehicles parked near the establishment were also damaged by the explosion.

Metro Manila police director Maj. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar clarified the incident was not related to any terror attack.

“Ito ay gas leak base on the initial investigation report ng MPD. Tayo ay nagpapasalamat dahil natiyak natin na ligtas ang ating mamamayan,” Eleazar said.  (Erma Edera)
