Palace vows justice for slain Abu Sayyaf Dutch hostage

MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang has condemned the killing of Dutch bird watcher Ewold Horn, who was abducted by the Abu Sayyaf group in 2012, and vowed to pursue his killers “to the ends of the earth.”

Horn was killed, along with the wife of Abu Sayyaf Group leader Radulan Sahiron and five other ASG members, at the height of an encounter with the military in Sitio Bud Sub-Sub, Barangay Pansul, Patikul, Sulu on Friday morning.

This was confirmed by the Western Mindanao Command.

In a statement Friday, Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo also expressed condolences to the bereaved family of Horn.

“Mr. Horn was killed during an encounter between government troops and the local terrorist group, and his death was confirmed by the Western Mindanao Command. We express our deep condolences to Mr. Horn’s family and loved ones,” Panelo said.

“We vow to pursue his killers to the ends of the earth until they are brought to justice.,” he added. (Editor: Eden Estopace)
