PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte is considering appointing outgoing Sen. Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito to the Cabinet after he lost in the midterm elections.
Ejercito, a member of Duterte’s senatorial slate, ranked 13th with 14,313,727 votes.
In his speech during his meeting with the Filipino community in Japan on Thursday night, Duterte said it was a shame that Ejercito was not able to win a Senate seat.
“I am regretful for JV [not winning a seat.] Well, anyway, you are still young. There is the Cabinet if there is a vacancy,” Duterte said.
Palace spokesman Salvador Panelo told The Manila Times on Friday that Duterte has not yet offered Ejercito a Cabinet post.
“He has not mentioned any [specific Cabinet positions for Ejercito,]” Panelo said.
Eight candidates from Duterte’s Partido ng Demokratiko Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan landed in the “Magic 12.”
They are returning Senators Cynthia Villar, Aquilino Pimentel 3rd and Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara, former Special Assistant to the President Christopher Go, former police chief Ronald dela Rosa, former presidential political adviser Francis Tolentino, former Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos and former Taguig City Rep. Pia Cayetano.
