A teacher in a primary school in Shandong, China, has been fired and detained by authorities after allegedly beating a young boy on the bottom.
The teacher, identified by the surname Han, apparently hit the boy with a stick more than a hundred times, according to ThePaper via the South China Morning Post on May 23. Han was dismissed by the No. 2 Experimental Primary School in Tancheng following his beating of his young student, Wang, as per China’s education and sports bureau.
The bureau announced on Chinese microblogging site last May 23 that Wang sustained minor injuries from his teacher’s corporal punishment. Wang’s parents took to social media and shared pictures of their son’s bottom, which was red and swollen.
“It’s a shock to me,” Wang’s parents were quoted as saying. “I wish it were possible to take my son’s place to be beaten 100 times.”
The school principal has since blamed Han for the incident, but acknowledged that the school had also been responsible. It is uncertain whether Wang would receive any compensation from his school.
Meanwhile, Han is currently being investigated by authorities. Cody Cepeda /ra
