Malacañang has declared June 5, Wednesday, as a regular holiday across the country in observance of Eid’l Fitr which marks the end of the Ramadan.
The national holiday declaration, contained in Proclamation No. 729 signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, was made upon the recommendation of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos.
“In order to bring religious and cultural significance of the Eid’l Fitr to the fore of national consciousness, it is necessary to declare Wednesday, 05 June, 2019 a regular holiday throughout the country,” the proclamation said.
The holiday proclamation seeks to give the nation “the full opportunity to join their Muslim brothers and sisters in peace and harmony in observance and celebration of Eid’l Fitr.”
The proclamation, signed by Medialdea on May 28 and released to the public yesterday, noted that Eid’l Fitr is celebrated by the Muslim world for three days after the end of the month of fasting.
Republic Act No. 9177 declares Eid’l Fitr as a regular holiday throughout the country. The date of the holiday, however, depends on the Islamic calendar. (Genalyn Kabiling)
