Two drivers died in a fire that hit a boarding house in Sta. Cruz, Manila, on Monday night.
Fire Team Leader Inspector Troy Junesa said the fatalities — Jaysa Abedra, 31, and Aly Ja Rabda, 37, both males — were trapped inside the burning three-story apartment on C.M. Recto Avenue in Sta. Cruz, Manila, around 7 p.m..
According to Matronillo Amado, a security guard of a nearby establishment, both victims worked as drivers. He said he saw them waving and seeking help during the fire.
Police said Rabda was set to leave for work in Saudi Arabia the next day, May 28. He was able to go out of the house, but he returned to get his passport.
The fire reached the second alarm at 7:19 p.m. and was put out at 9:07 p.m.
Fire damage was pegged at P100,000.
Probers have yet to determine the cause of the fire. (Erma Edera)
