MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed a dismissed district collector of the Port of Manila and two retired military officers as deputy chiefs in the Bureau of Customs (BOC).
In papers dated March 6, 2019, the President appointed sacked Port of Manila District Collector Vener Baquiran, retired Lt. Gen. Donato San Juan II, former superintendent of the Philippine Military Academy, and retired Brig. Gen. Raniel Ramiro, former chief of the Peace and Development Office of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
Malacañang sent the appointment papers to the media on Saturday.
In August 2018, Baquiran was relieved from his position over his alleged involvement in the smuggling of billions worth of shabu shipment through the BOC.
