Alaska guns for back-to-back victories as it takes on Northport at 4:30 p.m. today in Season 44 Philippine Basketball Association Commissioner’s Cup at the Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo City.
The Aces won their opening day game against Columbian Dyip, 111-98, on Sunday powered by import Christopher Daniels’ 25 points and 16 rebounds output.
Chris Banchero and Simon Enciso contributed 20 and 19 points, respectively.
“I’m sure it’s going to be a battle. Coach Pido (Jarencio) had so many good game plans last conference, (Stanley) Pringle at most nights is the single best guard in the country. Sean Anthony had an MVP-type of conference and Mo (Tautuaa) was in the running for BPC,” said Alaska coach Alex Compton.
Meanwhile, Northport coach Pido Jarencio told The Manila Times that several of his players would miss action today because of injury. Pringle is recuperating from foot surgery, Garvo Lanete is nursing a sprained ankle and big man Bradwyn Guinto is recovering from a knee operation.
“We are preparing against them but we have a lot of injured players now,” said Jarencio, adding that Pringle will return on Saturday in their game against Northern Luzon Expressway (NLEX).
Northport is pinning its opening game hope on import Prince Ibeh.
In the 7 p.m. game, import Terrence Jones will make his debut with TNT KaTropa when it plays NLEX.
“We will see tomorrow how our import (Jones) adjust in the PBA. We will be more particular on our defensive schemes so hopefully we win more games,” said TNT coach Bong Ravena.
The Road Warriors will be fielding in new import Curtis Washington who replaced Tony Mitchell.
