Eustaquio Far From Satisfied After Bounce Back Win

Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio walked out of the Singapore Indoor Stadium with his redemption arc rolling in ONE Championship following a clinical display against Kim Kyu Sung.
The former ONE Flyweight World Champion was certainly back on track as he outpointed his South Korean foe in the undercard of ONE: ENTER THE DRAGON last Friday, 17 May.
Despite the impressive show that he put on against his younger opponent, Eustaquio actually felt he could have done more in the match.
“I’m not a hundred percent satisfied with my performance,” said Eustaquio.
“I’m looking forward to get better and I’m willing to go back to the drawing board and be a better athlete,” he added.
Facing an opponent six-inches taller than him, “Gravity” used his superior quickness and head movement as he cut his foe to size and closed the distance for much of the first two rounds.
As Kim continued to fire blanks, Eustaquio danced around the ring, hitting the Evolve MMA product with his signature spinning elbows and head kicks, which he complemented with body shots.
Despite what seemed like a flawless first two rounds for Eustaquio, he admitted to being frustrated in the third round as Kim kept moving forward, even tagging him with a few solid ones before the round ended.
Thankfully, Eustaquio recovered just in time as he sealed an otherwise commanding win with a takedown late.
“I was starting to be dismayed by my performance,” said Eustaquio who was quick to credit Kim for his toughness.
“I was looking forward to take him down, put on an arm triangle or a marcelo choke but I have to be honest, he’s a tough guy. The kid is willing to win, that’s why he was unbreakable. That’s why I didn’t get the finish.”
Back on the winner’s circle after his narrow-loss to long time rival Adriano “Mikinho” Moraes last January at ONE: HERO’S ASCENT, Eustaquio still does not have any grand plans moving forward.
While becoming a two-time World Champion would be nice, Eustaquio says that his ultimate goal is becoming a better athlete moving forward,
No grand gestures, no call-outs, he just wants to be the best athlete he can be for his country and his team.
“I have to get back to the drawing board, be a better athlete. It’s my ultimate goal right now,” said Eustaquio.
“I’m not looking forward to a title or a championship, it’s all about making myself a better athlete and soon everything will follow.”
