At least 27 politicians who are in President Duterte’s list of alleged narco-politicians won in the midterm elections, the nation’s top police officer said yesterday.
Philippine National Police chief Police Gen. Oscar Albayalde said 37 of the 47 politicians in the President’s narco-list actually ran for public office in this year’s elections.
“Of the 37 who ran, 27 of them won. That is according to our data,” said Albayalde.
The government released the names of politicians whom it accused of being involved in illegal drugs trade before the May 13 midterm elections, in a move to reportedly discourage voters from electing them.
The government has yet to file charges against the alleged narco-politicians.
“The Department of the Interior and Local Government is the one handling their cases,” said Albayalde.
“The investigation on them is continuous and charges will immediately filed if there are pieces of evidence obtained,” he added. (Francis Wakefield)
