The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is set to hold special elections on Monday, May 20, in Barangay Dicamay I in Jones, Isabela where vote counting machines were burned by armed men on election day.
The special election involves 762 registered voters in Clustered Precinct 18 (0037A, 0037B, 0038A, 0038B, 0038P1).
The Comelec, sitting as the National Board of Canvassers, will wait for the results of the special elections because the votes could affect the outcome of the senatorial and party-list race, according to Education and Information Department Director Frances Arabe.
The Comelec en banc approved the designation of a 5-member Special Electoral Board led by Michael Camangeg, Provincial Election Supervisor in Isabela as well as the 5-member special board of election inspectors in Jones.
So far, the Comelec had canvassed 158 out of the 167 Certificates of Canvass as of 8:15 p.m. Saturday.
