DAGUPAN CITY, Pangasinan: Police are conducting a deeper investigation into the gunslay of a lawyer in Pangasinan in front of the Hall of Justice in Barangay Bonuan Tondaligan here on Friday.

Col. Wilson Joseph Lopez, Philippine National Police (PNP) Provincial director, said Val Crisostomo, a member of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines and a resident of Manaoag, Pangasinan, was shot several times by two unidentified gunmen while standing near the canteen at the hall of justice.

Witnesses told police investigators that Crisostomo was waiting for his client when the suspects approached and shot him several times.
He died on the spot from multiple gunshot wounds.

The victim was the chief legal counsel of Globaltech Mobile Online Corp., which was declared by the Philippine Charity Sweepstake Office (PCSO) to be illegally operating the Peryahan ng Bayan numbers game, which is similar to Small Town Lottery.

It was learned that Crisostomo just attended a hearing of a gambling case filed by law enforcers against his clients when he was shot dead.

Crisostomo initiated the filing of several pending criminal, administrative and civil cases against agents of the National Bureau of Investigation, officials of the Pangasinan PNP and other private individuals in relation to the operation of the numbers game.

Earlier on April 10, Anselmo Simeon Pinili, PCSO acting general manager, issued a notice to the public certifying that the numbers game operated by the Peryahan ng Bayan was illegal, having no permit issued by their office.

Pinili previously warned the public against participating in the operation of the numbers game, as since it was unauthorized and illegal.

The PCSO said Globaltech’s deed of authority expired on March 31, 2016. However, its operations continued in Pangasinan and in other provinces where the PCSO noted some violations in their operations.
