Lt. Col. Bella Rentuaya, spokesperson of the Eastern Visayas regional police, said the eight fatalities died on the spot due to serious injuries they suffered.
“Eleven other passengers of the van were injured. The driver of the truck and his helper were also injured. They were taken to the nearby hospitals,” said Rentuaya.

Local residents and motorists immediately assisted the injured victims while the police cordoned off the area for investigation.
