TWO alleged suspects in the burning of vote counting machines (VCMs) and election paraphernalia in Isabela are currently under the custody of police after one was arrested on Tuesday night and the other surrendered on Wednesday morning.

Rodel Pascual was arrested by joint police and military personnel in a hot pursuit operation in Barangay Diarao at around 10:30 p.m.

His companion Jayson Leanio surrendered to the barangay captain in Barangay Isabel on Wednesday at about 9:30 a.m.

Police Lt. Col. Chevalier Iringan, Police Regional Office 2 spokesman, said in a text message to reporters that the two were identified based on statements of witnesses.

Police are currently identifying the group where the two belong.

Two VCMs and election paraphernalia containing about 200 unread ballots were burned while teachers were on their way to bring them to the Jones Municipal Hall.

It was reported that a group of armed men blocked a group of board election inspectors from Barangay Dicamay II.

Appropriate charges will be filed against Pascual and Leanio.
