REELECTIONIST Abigail “Abby” Binay prevailed over her brother, Erwin Jejomar “Junjun” Binay, in a bitterly contested Makati mayoralty race.
Abby Binay gathered 179,522 votes to the former mayor’s 98,653 at the end of canvassing early Tuesday.
A total of 320,827 valid ballots were cast during Monday’s polls.
The siblings’ political feud caused a rift in the family, whose stronghold on the country’s business district has spanned more than 30 years.
Despite the win, the Binays did not show up for the mayoralty proclamation at thr Makati Coliseum.
Mayor Binay’s husband, Luis Jose Angel Campos Jr., was also reelected as Makati’s 2nd District representative with 90,376 votes.
Binay’s runningmate and reelectionist Vice Mayor Monique Lagdameo also won with 182,655, besting four other candidates including outgoing 1st District Rep. Monsour del Rosario, runningmate of former mayor Junjun Binay.
