THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) en banc convened on Monday as the National Board of Canvassers for the official tally of election results for senators and party-list groups that participated in Monday’s polls.

But pending the transmission of results from the provincial board of canvassers, Comelec Chairman Sheriff Abbas suspended the session until 1 p.m. on Tuesday.

The results to be counted by the NBOC will come from the provincial board of canvassers (PBOC), which tabulated the votes at the municipal and city levels.

Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said that after the canvassing of votes at the precinct level, the vote counting machines would immediately print out eight copies of election returns (ERs) before any electronic transmission could be done.

The ERs will be distributed to the recipients specified by law, which will include the dominant majority and minority parties.

A copy of the ER will also be posted in front of the polling stations for the public to see for transparency reasons.

Jimenez added that thereafter the machines would print 22 more ER copies for members of the media, both national and local, citizen’s arms and non-government organizations, among others.
