CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: A town councilor in Misamis Occidental was shot dead after he cast his vote past 8 a.m. on Monday, a report reaching here said.
Reid Isidro Moreno of Clarin was on his way home after voting in the town Poblacion when he was waylaid by hooded assailants, P/Lt. Col. Benildo Tumanda, provincial police chief, said.
Tumanda said Moreno was reportedly receiving “death threats” prior to the shooting.
He said that the motive was primarily a “personal grudge,” but investigators were not ruling out politics.
Despite the incident, Tumanda said the peace and order situation in Misamis Occidental was under control. CRIS DIAZ
