The 142,000-strong Armed Forces of the Philippines is very much prepared and ready for today’s elections, AFP spokesman Brig. Gen. Edgard Arevalo said yesterday.
Arevalo assured that military will ensure that the elections will be peaceful and orderly.
He said that they have not monitored any credible group that has a capability to sabotage the elections but they are not taking any chances. Arevalo said sufficient preparation has been done to thwart any attempt to disrupt the polls.
“They may attempt but they will never succeed. The degree of preparation, the degree of planning, preparations, as well as execution and coordination with the PNP, the Commission on Elections, and other agencies of government where elections will be held, the results are very encouraging and we are confident that this will help us ensure that our elections will be orderly, peaceful and credible,” Arevalo said.
Arevalo advised the voting public not to be afraid, go out, and vote for the candidate they think deserves to hold public office.
He said the AFP has been on red alert for the elections since last Friday.
He said AFP Chief of Staff General Benjamin Madrigal Jr. instructed troops to remain apolitical and avoid politicking. (Francis Wakefield)
