PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte should reopen peace negotiations with the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) to avoid his “direction” to hell, exiled Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) Jose Maria “Joma” Sison said on Sunday.
Sison was reacting to a speech by Duterte at the PDP-Laban miting de avance in Pasig City on Saturday night in which he said that he would be “happy” to go with the communist leader “hand in hand to the mouths of hell.”
Sison said, however, that he has no intention of joining Duterte “whether this be a medieval religious presumption or a figure of speech for historical infamy.”
Sison said that Duterte, whom he has been at odds with, was “destined for historical damnation for being treasonous, tyrannical, murderous, corrupt and swindling.”
For him, however, the President should push for the resumption of peace negotiations with the NDFP for him to be able to “mend his ways” if he wanted to “change course from the direction of hell.”
“Then, we can work together to respond to the demands of the Filipino people for social, economic and political reforms,” Sison said.
“I am not blinking but I am winking at my former student to indicate to him that he can avoid getting hell from the Filipino people and their revolutionary forces by acceding to the reforms needed for a just peace,” he said.
Sison, however, committed that he would remain “steadfast and militant in being loyal” to the cause of the Filipino people fighting for rights.
He also admitted that he had called the Duterte administration a “scourge” to the Filipino people.
Duterte and Sison have been at odds since the President ordered the cancellation of the peace talks with the communists.
Since 2017, Duterte issued a proclamation cancelling the talks, and then another one declaring the CPP and its armed wing, the New People’s Army (NPA) as terrorist organizations. DEMPSEY REYES
