Military raises red alert ahead of midterm polls

THE Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) raised the red alert in all military camps and units nationwide effective on Friday.
Gen. Benjamin Madrigal Jr., Armed Forces chief of staff, said this was in support of the Commission on Elections and the Philippine National Police (PNP) and “to ensure that our troops and all AFP personnel are ready to act on any emergency and thwart all possible threats that may arise.”
“We are ready to respond appropriately for the honest, orderly and peaceful conduct of elections,” Madrigal said.
On Tuesday, a total of 98,000 soldiers were sent off to back up the Comelec in areas in need of security forces. DEMPSEY REYES
