Customs rescues smuggled 20-inch python at Naia

MANILA, Philippines — Bureau of Customs (BOC) personnel rescued a 20-inch live python during an X-ray inspection at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia).
The BOC on Wednesday said the snake was hidden inside a bluetooth speaker. It also noted that the snake could grow as long as 42 feet.
According to the BOC, the package was intercepted by Customs NAIA personnel on Sunday.
The python has been turned over to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for proper handling and care.
The public is reminded that the import, export, and trade of wildlife without necessary permits is a violation of Republic Act 9147 or Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act in relation to R.A. 10863 (Customs Modernization and Tariff Act).
Violators may face imprisonment of one year and one day up to two years with a fine of P2,000 up to P200,000. /muf
