THE Senate on Friday will open its investigation on a series of videos linking President Rodrigo’s family to illegal drug activities.
SEN. Panfilo Lacson, chairman of the Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs, said, however, that Peter Joemel Advincula who surfaced on Monday and admitted that he was “Bikoy,” the hooded figure featured in the five videos, must present to the panel his sworn affidavit and supporting documents for the investigation to continue.
Advincula appeared before the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) to seek its help out of fear for his life. He also appealed to concerned sectors to allow him to clarify his accusations against the President’s eldest son, former Davao City vice mayor Paolo “Polong” Duterte; son-in-law, Manases Carpio, husband of Duterte’s daughter, Sara Duterte-Carpio; and former special assistant and now senatorial candidate Christopher “Bong” Go.
“The committee is sending out today a formal invitation letter to Advincula through the IBP since it was the last known link to him and they may have knowledge of how to relay the invitation to him,” Lacson said in a text message.
“The hearing is set on Friday at 9:30 a.m. It will push through once Bikoy confirms his attendance with a sworn statement ready,” Lacson said.
He added, “In the meantime, we are doing some background investigation and record check on him.”
Asked about the impending Senate inquiry on Bikoy’s claim, Senate President Vicente Sotto 3rd said, “Perhaps (we can proceed with it) if he can present proof to his allegations.”
“But if his past actions belie his claims then it would be best for IBP to do a Pilate,” Sotto said.
