THE Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Tuesday reported that there were no Filipinos among the 76 passengers on board the plane which caught fire in Moscow, Russia on May 5.

At least 41 people on board the Aeroflot SU 1492 were killed, including two children, after the aircraft crash-landed in Sheremetyevo Airport, bursting into flames on impact.

The DFA, through Philippine Ambassador to Russia Carlos Sorreta, has extended its condolences to the Russian government after the accident.

“We would like to express our deepest sympathies to the families and friends of those who died and hope for the safe recovery of those injured,” Sorreta said on Facebook.

Apart from the 41 fatalities, 14 received outpatient treatment and nine people were hospitalized after the crash.

In a statement by Aeroflot, the plane “suffered an engine fire afer being forced to return to the Sheremetyevo Airport due to technical problems.”
