The Philippine Football Federation has began the process of trying to salvage this year’s domestic league season after terminating its agreement with the operator of the Philippine Premier League on Friday.

In a statement released yesterday, PFF said it is planning to revive the Philippines Football League with a planned kickoff late this month after the PPL encountered numerous controversies in the lead-up to the opener held last weekend at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Two clubs – Stallion-Laguna and Global-Makati – begged off from joining the PPL due to differences with league commissioner Bernie Sumayao.

The PPL also allowed Air Force and Mendiola to play the opener despite their failure to secure club licenses from the PFF.

Talks between PFF and the five licensed clubs – Stallion, Global, Ceres Negros, Kaya Iloilo and Green Archers United – are ongoing as they look to process the PFL’s return and maintain the country’s slots in next AFC club competitions.
