NCR tankers humble rivals

DAVAO City – National Capital Region dominated the four-day swimming competitions by harvesting 35 gold medals in the 2019 Palarong Pambansa at the University of Mindanao pool here.
Miguel Barreto, Philip Joaquin Santos, and Xiandi Chua spearheaded the Metro Manila tankers with Barreto sweeping all his seven events and Santos and Chua winning six golds each.
Barreto ruled the secondary boys 400-meter freestyle (4:08.68), 200m butterfly (2:08.00), 1500m free (16:51.12), the 4x400m medley relay with Santos, Rian Tirol and Keanne Ting (4:01.44), and the 4x400m free relay with Santos, Steven Ho and Ted Laminta (3:42.93).
He ruled the 100m fly (57.30sec) and the 200m free (1:56.07) in record-ripping fashions.
Just as promising was 17-year-old Chua, who hails from San Juan City, as she registered five new marks out of her six victories namely the secondary girls 200m breaststroke (2:43.08), 200m individual medley (2:23.86), 400m medley relay with Samantha Coronel, Thanya Dela Cruz and Micaela Mojdeh (4:32.49) and the 4x400m free relay with Hannah Sanchez, Althea Baluyut and Camille Buico (4:05.19).
She prevailed in the 400m IM (5:08.21).

Santos, for his part, reset three records in his six triumphs that included the secondary boys 200m IM (2:12.58), 200m backstroke (2:08.16) and the 4x400m medley relay with Tirol, Ting and Barreto (4:01.44).
He won in the 100m back (59.57sec), 400m IM (4:46.34) and the 4x400m free relay with Barreto, Ho and Laminta (3:42.93).
At the Malayan Colleges Mindanao, Soccsksargen dominated the arnis competitions spearheaded by sisters Shenay May and Princess Sheryl Valdez.
Shena May, 14, reaped five gold medals in the secondary girls division with victories in the anyo individual event single weapon, double weapon, espada y daga, team event single weapon and team event double weapon with Joanna Julaya and Stephane Mones.
Younger sister Princess Sheryl, 12, ruled the elementary girls class also with five golds in anyo event individual single weapon, 2-player solo baston, individual double baston, espada y daga, and team event in espada y daga.
