You could be the new Darna

ARE you 20 to 26 years old, at least 5’5” in height, fluent in Tagalog, physically able and with acting experience? If the answer is yes well, you could be the next Darna.
Auditions for the role will be conducted by Star Cinema, Star Magic, and Star Hunt starting May 4 and 5 at the ABS-CBN headquarters in Quezon City.
According to ABS-CBN’s Head of TV Entertainment Laurenti Dyogi, “Ito ay pagkakataon sa ating mga kababayan, na sa tingin nila, sila ang tamang Darna na hahangaan ng mga manonood.”
The role, meant for a film reboot of the franchise, was made vacant after Liza Soberano backed out of the long delayed project due to an injury.
Dyogi is hopeful the slot will be filled soon by a fresh, new face.
“Baka may higit pang tamang Darna na makuha, ‘yung undiscovered, untapped talent na nandiyan lang,” he said.
Dyogi, however, clarified, “The Star Hunt audition is not a promise, it’s not a commitment na doon makukuha ang Darna. Ito lang ay isang pagkakataon para sa ating mga kababayan na mag-audition at umapela na sila ang tamang Darna.”
Star Cinema head Olivia Lamasan disclosed that several stars from ABS-CBN’s talent arm, Star Magic, have already tried out for the part.
“Nagpatawag din kami from several talent scouts, modeling agencies, talent agencies. Kahit mga past contestants of beauty pageants, kahit sa field of sports – may athletes din na nakapag-audition na,” she related.
But she wanted to widen the field further noting, “Darna is a very big character to play and could be challenging for any artist. Ako, personally, we would want to keep our minds open. Minsan kasi, ‘pag may nag-o-audition, parang sa pigura, parang hindi, pero ‘pag nagsalita, ‘pag tiningnan mo sa mata, ‘pag nagsimulang umarte, even in her very rawness, may dating.”
Following Soberano’s exit from the project, fans named their favourites to play the Mars Ravelo character.
Among them were Maja Salvador, Julia Barretto, Nadine Lustre, Yam Concepcion, Pia Wurtzbach, Jessy Mendiola, Sarah Geronimo. (RAMPADOR ALINDOG)
