The Commission on Elections has assured that it is ready to respond to any last minute problems in the May 13 midterm polls.
“There are still some issues. We saw with the markers last minute hiccups. But again our preparations are such that we seem to be well placed to respond to these last minute problems,” Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said.
“In fact, back in 2010, we had an even worst last minute problem. If you recall the issue about the SD card. Now we don’t have that kind of problem,” he added.
“So, if you put everything in the context of how we have been conducting elections since 2010, I think we are doing very well,” said Jimenez.
It was reported that there are bleeding pens that have been dispatched by the Comelec to its field offices ahead of the May 13 polls and these, Jimenez said, will be recalled.
“There are some pens that need to be recalled. We will be replacing them prior to election. There are I think almost a million marking pens that have been ordered already and they will be shipped out in due time,” Jimenez said.
“We are sending them the markers that’s gonna be used and that will solve the issue,” he added.
Aside from serving as replacement markers, he said there will also be those designated as reserves.
“We are talking about 85,000 polling precincts and its normal allotment of marking pens is five to eight each. So we will really need a lot,” said Jimenez. (Leslie Ann Aquino)
