THE workers’ union of embattled Cebu Pacific denied claims that the recent wave of flight cancellations were due to labor woes.
In a statement posted on its Facebook page on Thursday, Juan Wing Association of the Philippines (JWAP) stressed that the organization has no issues with its management.
“Lately there seems to be misinformation and disinformation dragging the UNION to create disparity and confusion. JWAP is working side by side with Cebu Pacific Management and we stand firm with JWAP’s Mission-Vision: Strengthening the bond between MGT and crew through a harmonious relationship for mutual growth and benefit,” it said.
“As of the moment the cabin crew are working to the best of their abilities to assist in easing up the situation. Our cabin crew are exhausting all means to make sure that all affected guests are genuinely accommodated and are safely flown to their destination but our priority remains on the completion of our CBA,” the union said.
While JWAP issued its side on its official social media account, it noted the organization “has no plans of speaking to the media at this time until further notice.”
Alleged manpower issues had been reported by the media after the unusual flight cancellations of the Gokongwei-led airline, extending through at least May 10.
Starting Sunday, more than a hundred flights were cancelled, affecting thousands of flyers.
Cebu Pacific had blamed the situation to aircraft shortage and increased flights in and out of Manila, insisting cancelling flights was necessary “to create space in our schedule for operational recovery, minimize rolling delays and give passengers the chance to make alternate travel plans, we have to temporarily reduced the number of our flights given the current operating conditions, particularly in our Manila hub.” LISBET K.
