JUSTICE Secretary Menardo Guevarra identified the man behind the controversial videos linking President Rodrigo Duterte and his family to illegal drugs.
In a press conference at the Department of Justice (DoJ) on Thursday, Guevarra said Rodel Jayme was arrested on Tuesday by virtue of a search warrant issued by Makati Regional Trial Court Judge Andres Soriano, who is also handling the rebellion case of Sen. Antonio Trillanes 4th.
Guevarra said Jayme uploaded the videos on MetroBalita.net that featured a certain “Bikoy,” a hooded individual who named Duterte and members of his family, including his daughter with partner Honeylet Avancena, as being engaged in illegal drug activities.
Asked whether Jayme was “Bikoy,” Guevarra said the investigation was ongoing.
The National Bureau of Investigation is expected to file a complaint against Jayme.
The NBI, through its Public Information Chief earlier in the day, called Jayme a “person of interest.”
In a series of videos that were uploaded on the internet, “Bikoy” claimed that he used to be part of a big-time drug syndicate operating in Southern Luzon and the Visayas.
He claimed that he has kept transaction records showing the alleged involvement of Christopher “Bong” Go, President Duterte’s former aide and now running for senator; Duterte’s son Paolo; and his daughter Veronica. Also implicated in the videos were businessmen and former politicians.
