MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Thursday deposited the second and last batch of source codes for the May 13 midterm elections in the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).
The source codes were placed in individual envelopes and locked in a box secured with a paper seal signed by Comelec Executive Director Jose Tolentino.
Deposited were the Operating System (OS), image rebuild for the Consolidation and Canvassing System (CCS), Transmission Router, and the Domain Name Server (DNS) Janitor for fast transmission of results.
The first batch of automated election system (AES)-related software was deposited at BSP last last Feb. 8.
Depositing the source code with the central bank is in line with Republic Act 9369 or “The Election Automation Law.”
“It’s a requirement of RA 9369 that all source codes shall be deposited in escrow with the Bangko Sentral,” Tolentino said.
The Comelec rents the space for P2,700 per month, the poll body official noted. /cbb
