PH Navy sends ship to Spratlys to resupply food, drinks for troops

THE Philippine Navy sent one of its ships to the occupied Kalayaan Group of Islands (Spratlys), which would resupply food and drinks to troops stationed there.
Lt. Ronne Riel Grimpola, spokesman of the Palawan-based Naval Forces West, said aboard the BRP Benguet were sailors, marines, civilian employees, and representatives from the Department of Energy (DoE) and Shell Philippines.
BRP Benguet sailed from the Oyster Bay detachment pier in Barangay Bahile in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan on Monday.
BRP Benguet is one of the remaining Philippine landing tank ships, which Lt. Cmdr. Rolando Borromeo currently commands.
The DoE and Shell said they would want to look for themselves “the conditions of the troops in these island territories.”
Manila is occupying several islands within the Spratly archipelago, which includes Pag-asa (Thitu) Island, Likas (West York) Island, Parola (Northeast) Cay, Lawak (Nanshan) Island, Kota (Loaita) Island, Patag (Flat) Island, Panata (Loaita) Cay, Rizal (Commodore) Reef and Ayungin (Second Thomas) Shoal.
