Jimenez tells public: Do not sell your votes

MANILA, Philippines — As election day nears, Commission on Elections (Comelec) spokesperson James Jimenez urged the public not to sell their votes.
“With respect to everyone giving different advice: DO *NOT* TAKE THE MONEY. IN ALL CASES, VOTE ACCORDING TO YOUR CONSCIENCE. #VoterEd #NLE2019,” Jimenez said in a tweet Tuesday.

Jimenez issued the statement after reports were sent to him using the hashtag #SumbongSaCOMELEC that some politicians are allegedly engaged in vote buying.
Jimenez also advised the public to immediately report similar incidents to their local Comelec offices.
According to the Comelc, there are only 13 days left before voters go the polls.
Election day is set on May 13. Polling precincts will open as early as 6 a.m. and will be closed at 6 p.m.
Jimenez earlier said that the Comelec has been conducting post-earthquake reviews around Metro Manila to check the structural integrity of public schools that will serve as polling centers.
This after a series of quakes rocked the country last week.
“We will coordinate that immediately with the DepEd (Department of Education) so that DepEd knows what we have found,” he said. /muf
