Palace won’t meddle in Manila Times ‘internal dispute‘

MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang will not interfere in the “internal dispute” at The Manila Times after its managing editor resigned over the publication of “oust-Duterte plot” story in the broadsheet.
Felipe Salvosa II said he resigned after the publication of the matrix tagging several media personalities conniving to oust President Rodrigo Duterte.

Dante Ang, chair emeritus of the Times and writer of the article, said he asked Salvosa to resign for posting on social media his disagreement with the management decision to release the story.
Ang said his source of the matrix was from the Office of the President.
Sought for comment on Salvosa’s resignation, presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said Malacañang would not meddle on the issue.
“So I think it’s an internal dispute between the publisher and the editor and we will not delve into that. Let them resolve their conflict,” Panelo said in a Palace briefing.
Panelo had earlier said the Palace was going to release the same matrix that was published on the Times on the same day.

“The source of that is from the Office of the President, from the President himself. I don’t know how he got one. But it’s coming from the President. I talked to him the other day,” he said.
