MALACANANG has offered a P10-million bounty for the capture of a former official of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) who has been linked to the smuggling of P2.4 billion worth of “shabu” into the country.

Former PDEA deputy director Eduardo Acierto was named in President Rodrigo Duterte’s drug matrix in 2018.

Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said the Palace has yet to issue a formal announcement but confirmed that the offer was from the Office of the President.

Guevarra also warned “persons coddling or protecting Acierto that they will also be arrested and prosecuted under Section 4 of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs law.”

“Acierto has been indicted, together with other individuals, for the importation of shabu worth about P2.4 billion stashed inside magnetic lifters,” Guevarra said.

Palace Spokesman Salvador Panelo said he did not have any information about the bounty.

Acierto resurfaced in March and tagged Davao-based Chinese businessman Michael Yang and a certain Allan Lim as allegedly behind drug operations in Davao and Cagayan de Oro in 2004.

He also showed photos of Lim and Yang together with President Rodrigo Duterte and former top aide Christopher “Bong” Go.

Speaking at a turnover of grants to beneficiaries of the Department or Social Welfare and Development’s Unconditional Cash Transfer Program also in March, Duterte said that the public should not believe Acierto.

“Do not believe these, especially Acierto,” Duterte said.

Duterte asked uniformed personnel why Acierto was still alive.

“I am asking you, military and police. Why is the son of a b—h still alive?” Duterte said.
