BACOLOD CITY – An alleged high-value target in Western Visayas was killed while P2.7-million worth of illegal drugs was recovered during a buy-bust operation in Barangay 6, Victorias City, Negros Occidental yesterday.

Police identified the suspect as Leoner Jalandoon, a resident of Barangay Banago, Bacolod City. He was an alleged drug group leader in Negros Occidental.

Jalandoon allegedly resisted arrest by the police during the operation, a report from the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office said.

The suspect reportedly fired at policemen, prompting them to retaliate.

The operation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Unit, City Intelligence Unit of the Bacolod City Police Office, Victorias City Police Station, and Naval Intelligence and Security Force.

Police recovered 101 sachets of suspected shabu worth P2,727,000, weighing scale, the P27,000 marked money, and drug paraphernalia.

Police have yet to determine the firearm used by the suspect. Authorities also recovered from Jalandoon’s possession a sachet of suspected shabu.

Also arrested yesterday was Janine Cruz, 18, of Barangay 16, Bacolod City, who is Jalandoon’s partner. She is under the custody of Victorias City Police Station.

Earlier, authorities said that Jalandoon was allegedly the source of a couple who previously yielded P9.6-million worth of illegal drugs in Bacolod City on April 5. They are alleged members of Jalandoon’s drug group. (Glazyl Masculino)
