AN alleged Abu Sayyaf Group member who works as a private security guard was arrested by police authorities in a mall in Muntinlupa City, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Friday noon.

Police Col. Bernard Banac, PNP spokesman, told reporters that Aldemar Murih Saiyari was arrested in a mall on April 24 after he was served with a warrant of arrest for kidnapping and serious illegal detention charges issued by Pasig Regional Trial Court 162.

Saiyari was working as a private security guard operating with a fake license.

Banac said that he was one of the identified suspects in the kidnapping and hostage-taking of 21 tourists who were seized in a resort island in Sidapan, Malaysia and were brought to Sulu back in April 2000.

Authorities also found out that the private security agency called Blue Panthers has been illegally operating with an expired license.

Blue Panthers was also previously ordered by the PNP Civil Security Group to cease to operate in 2016 for failing to renew its expired license.

Sidapan is under police custody in Taguig for proper documentation. ROY NARRA
