RETIRED Lt. Gen. Jacinto Ligot, former military comptroller, has applied for probation before the Sandiganbayan First Division instead of serving six years of jail time over his perjury conviction.
Ligot, who was convicted for failing to declare pieces of property in his Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN) from 1998 to 2003, said that he was not among those disqualified offenders as enumerated in Section 9 of Presidential Decree 968 or the Probation Law.
“He undertakes to comply with such terms and conditions as this Honorable Court may impose if his application for probation will be granted,” Ligot said in his application filed on April 22.
“Wherefore, in light of the foregoing, it is respectfully prayed of the Honorable Court that the execution of sentence of the accused Jacinto Ligot be suspended and that he be placed on probation,” he added.
On April 12, the anti-graft court found Ligot guilty beyond reasonable doubt in six of his perjury cases and was sentenced to suffer one year of prison for each count.
Among the properties Ligot failed to disclose were his Imbayao Farm, his Paseo Parkview condominium units, and his parcel of land in Tanay, Rizal. GLEE JALEA
