THE Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), through the Philippine Embassy in Athens, is monitoring the investigation on the murder of three Filipinas in Cyprus.

The DFA also extended its condolences to the families of the victims, whose identities it could not divulge as of posting time out of respect for their families.

The three Filipinas—one of whom was with her daughter–were reported missing between 2017 and 2018, and authorities initially thought that they disappeared for other reasons and had not been victims of a violent crime.

The victims’ bodies were found in an abandoned mine in Mitsero earlier this April.

The self-confessed suspect, a Cypriot and member of the National Guard, met the Filipinas through a dating website.

DFA Assistant Secretary Emmanuel Fernandez, in a statement, said, “The child’s remains have not yet been found.  It is hoped that the investigation would bring the perpetrator to justice.”

Chargé d’Affaires Judy Barbara Robianes said the embassy has reported the cases of the missing Filipinas to Cypriot authorities and have continuously followed up with them on those cases.

Embassy representatives are now in Cyprus to meet with authorities and provide further assistance. BERNADETTE E. TAMAYO
