Luzon grid placed on yellow alert for Friday

MANILA, Philippines—The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) placed the Luzon grid on yellow alert for Friday.
In an advisory, the NGCP said the Luzon grid will be on yellow alert from 10 a.m. for 4 p.m.
Available capacity is at 11,544 megawatts, and its peak demand is at 10,632 megawatts, the NGCP added.

“Details on the cause to be announced by the Department of Energy (DOE) later in the day,” the advisory read.
The NGCP previously raised yellow and red alerts on the Luzon grid because of low electricity reserves.

According to the Department of Energy (DOE), a yellow alert is usually raised is when “a grid’s reserve power—the difference between supply and demand—is below the required level.” However, it does not necessarily lead to power outages.
Meanwhile, the NGCP raises a red alert on grids when there are zero operating reserves, which could lead to consumers to experience rotational brownouts. /muf
