THE number of Filipino families that experienced hunger in the first quarter of 2019 dropped slightly, a Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey said.
The survey from March 29 to 31 found that 9.5 percent, or about 2.3 million families, experienced “involuntary” hunger, lower than the 10.5 percent, or about 2.4 million families, recorded in December 2018.
Those who experienced “severe” hunger was at 1.3 percent, 0.2 points lower compared to the 1.5 percent recorded in December.
About 8.1 percent of Filipinos said they were “moderately” hungry, down by 0.8 points from December’s 8.9 percent.
The survey was conducted among 1,440 Filipinos aged 18 years old and above.
It had sampling error margins of ±2.6 percent for national percentages, and ±5 percent each for Balance Luzon, Metro Manila, the Visayas, and Mindanao. RALPH VILLANUEVA
